International Training Programme on Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Policy and Management for Developing Countries (ITPS)

The ITPS was successfully held from 8-12 August 2016 at Swiss Garden Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The training programme was officiated by Dato’ Dr. Mohd Azhar Bin Haji Yahaya, Secretary-General, representing the Honorable Datuk Seri Panglima Madius Tangau, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), Malaysia.
This is the 18th training programme on Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Policy organised by ISTIC which was supported by Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), Malaysia, NAM S&T Centre and Islamic Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO).
A total of 29 participants from 24 countries comprising Bangladesh, Cambodia, Cuba, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Myanmar, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Suriname, Tajikistan, Uganda, Venezuela, Zimbabwe and Malaysia attended the training programme, 18 were males and 11 were females.
The main objective of training workshop is to provide the necessary knowledge and sharing of experience to participants in order to ensure that they are in good position to face the challenges in driving socio-economic transformation through the strategic management of science, technology and innovation.
The training programme provided the following learning experience to the participants:
- Learning key principles related to STI Policy and Management
- Focused on Food Security
- Get to apply Best Practices in STI Management through Projects
- Acquire key competencies in:-
- STI Policy and Management
- Development of Policy Responses
- Applying Technology Management Best Practices in implementing policies
- Developing human capital agenda in delivering the STI policies
- Creating Support Systems for the National Innovation System
- Enhancing National Capacity in STI
The programme included visit to Technology Park Malaysia to allow participants to get first-hand information about high technology industries and export in Malaysia. At the Technology Park, participants visited the Internet of Things (IoT) show room, high-end prototyping laboratory, robotics and servo laboratory, bio technology laboratory and technology innovator incubators.
At the end of the workshop, the participants were required to do group assignment and present it to the three judges and other participants. The best presentation and best group was awarded with a prize.
