Training Workshop on Maintenance of Infrastructure
25-28 July 2016, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

The above said workshop was held on 25-28 July 2016 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in collaboration of the International Science, Technology, and Innovation Centre for South-South Cooperation under the auspices of UNESCO (ISTIC) and Malaysia Service Providers Confederation (MSPC) with the support of the Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA), Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM), Master Builders Association Malaysia (MBAM) and Indah Water Konsortium (IWK). The workshop was officiated by Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin, Deputy Minister of Works Malaysia while Dato’ Dr. Samsudin Tugiman, Chair of ISTIC Governing Board gave the welcome address.

40 participants attended this workshop, 20 were Malaysian while other 20 participants was from Brunei, Cambodia, Kenya, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam.  The participants comprised of 32 males and 8 females. The participants consisted technical staff and practitioners from Government ministries and the private sectors. The combination of participants from ASEAN and South countries provided the platform for an exchange of knowledge, ideas and experiences as well as opportunities for discussions, networking and collaboration. The workshop covered essential topics on legislative framework, assessment needs, planning, execution, including financial planning and budgetary control of infrastructure maintenance that focused on highway, water treatment plant, sewerage system and shopping mall maintenance.

This workshop also included technical visit to three places, the technical visit on highway maintenance is at R&R (Bridge Restaurant) at Sungai Buloh / MHA. The visit to water treatment plant and sewerage system was at Pantai Dalam, Kuala Lumpur by Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) while visit to shopping mall was at Sunway Pyramid.
